BMW boss jailed over speeding charge lie
Thomas Moser, the finance director of the BMW-owned Mini factory in Oxford, has been jailed for six weeks for lying to police after being clocked speeding at 101 mph.

Moser (48) was given three opportunities to change his story, but declined. He was consequently jailed for perjury after claiming falsely that his 19-year-old son had been driving the Mini at twice the 50 mph speed limit.
He is the latest in a growing number of motorists who try to illegally ‘swap points’ to keep their licences clean or escape a ban.
Photographic evidence showed that Moser was driving at the time of the offence, Banbury Magistrates Court was told. He pleaded guilty in court to making a false written statement and to the speeding charge. He was also fined £1,200 for speeding, ordered to pay £60 costs and was banned from driving for three years.
A BMW spokesman said: “We are investigating disciplinary action in this case.” (Daily Mail: November 3).
At BeyondtheKM.com, we aren’t sure which is more impressive, that a BMW/Mini executive is to be jailed for (a ridiculous) 6 weeks!!!! Or that the BMW executive lied under oath! OR that a MINI can go 100+ miles per hour (162.5 KM/hour). Let’s hope the £1200 fine goes to pay for his 6 week incarceration, and 3 year ban! Still, after all is said and done, it’s not clear that the public was definitely endangered.
Excessive fine? You be the judge. We will be back later this week with another analysis of British speeding laws, you may very well change your mind!
